Through a Perkins Grant, the Library purchased 10 iPad minis that are available for checkout.
These are 16GB models with Wi-Fi.
Please refer to the Policies/Guidelines below for more information about the Library's iPads.
Only current faculty, staff, and students of Hocking College may check out an iPad. The patron must have a valid library account in good standing (i.e. no overdue books, fines, etc.) and must read, agree to, and sign the iPad loan agreement form.
Students must present their Hocking College ID, or provide a photo ID along with their student number at the time of checkout.
The iPad loan agreement form must be read and signed each time that an iPad is borrowed. Only one iPad can be checked out per person, and under no circumstances will a patron be allowed to check out an iPad for another person.
Users agree to abide by the Hocking College IT Acceptable Use Policy
Patrons who fail to follow the iPad policies and guidelines will not be allowed any further iPad checkouts.
iPads can be checked out at the Library circulation desk during normal operating hours.
iPad checkout period is 28 days or until the last day of the semester, whichever comes first.
iPad checkouts cannot be renewed.
iPads cannot be held or reserved.
iPads are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Library cannot guarantee that an iPad will be available.
Patrons must wait at least 24 hours after returning an iPad to check another one out (pending availability).
iPads must be returned to the Library circulation desk by closing time on the due date. Please do not return it to the Library's drop box, as this could result in damage to the device and will result in a fine.
iPads are not available for checkout during breaks between semesters, or during the last 4 weeks of the semester.
Fines & Damages
A $10.00 late fee will be assessed for each day the iPad is returned past its due date. If the iPad is more than 3 days overdue, it will be considered lost or stolen, and the borrower will be charged with the cost of replacement. Also, law enforcement will be notified and location data from the Find my iPad application will be turned over to aid in recovery of the iPad.
Replacement cost for a lost, stolen, or damaged-beyond-repair iPad is $550.
Replacement for a lost smart case is $70.
Replacement for a lost power cord & adapter is $40.
Replacement for a lost carrying case is $10.
Fine for returning the iPad to the drop box is $15.
The working condition of the iPad will be assessed before checkout and again upon its return. The iPad may not be returned without a charged battery (we must be able to test the iPad upon return, so it needs to have some battery life left). Users are responsible for any damage, loss or theft of loaned units. Users should report any damage or other problems with the iPad to Library staff immediately.
Please do not attempt to repair the device, or service it in any way.
Fines and fees for damage to the iPad will vary based upon the severity of the damage. Patrons are responsible for the repair costs assessed to the Library.
"Jail-breaking" the iPad voids its warranty. Any patron found to have altered the iPad in this way will be charged the replacement cost of the iPad.
Any fines/replacement costs will be billed to your Hocking College account. Unpaid charges can prevent the ability to register for classes and to request transcripts.
iPads for checkout have pre-selected apps installed. You may not download or purchase apps using the Library's account. You may log out of the Library's account and use your own iTunes account if you wish (under Settings -- iTunes & app store -- tap Apple ID and sign out). Upon return to the library, any additional data or purchases will be deleted from the iPad, and it will be restored to its original setup.
Any additional apps or media purchased by the patron must be done using their own account and funds, and is not the responsibility of Hocking College Library.
Patrons must sign out of all personal accounts, services, and apps before returning the iPad to the Library. The Library is not responsible for any unauthorized access to personal accounts due to failure by the user to sign out of their account(s), including (for example, but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, Google Drive and Dropbox.
The Library is not responsible for any damage or issues that may result from the iPad being connected to other devices/equipment.
